Nancy Meeker Newbegin, 78, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Edward Cherry Newbegin entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Friday evening in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Nancy was born February 3, 1937 in Manhattan, New York, daughter of the late David Olan Meeker and Estelle Niemann Meeker. She attended Penn Hall Preparatory School in Chambersburg, PA, and graduated from Sea Cliff High School in Sea Cliff, NY. Nancy volunteered at Mt. Vernon Hospital in Alex, VA from 1978-1986, St. Francis Bon Secours Hospital for twenty one years, MUSC Crime Victim Drive for three years, and Hospice of Charleston Center driver and aide from 2003-2006. She also received awards, The Presidents Call to Service, Governors Volunteer Legacy, Act of Kindness 2007, and Act of Kindness 2013.
She is survived by her son, Edward A. (Jan) Newbegin of Concord, CA, two daughters, Leslie (William) Gielarowski of Brooklin, ME, and Lori (Deena) Stewart of San Diego, CA, two sisters, Elise Coe (James) of Sacramento, CA, and Leigh (Frank) Lionetti of Cos Cobb, CT, two brothers, John Meeker, and Stephen Meeker, six grandchildren, Peter Newbegin, Zach Newbegin, Jessica Sayles, Casey Newbegin, Hank Gielarowski, and Jon Gielarowski, one great-grandson, Alex Gielarowski. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother David Olan Meeker.
