Nancy was born August 4, 1934 in Conway, South Carolina, daughter of the late Hagood Lambert and the late Albertine Jones Lambert. She graduated from Aynor High School in 1952. When Coastal Carolina College opened for their inaugural year, she was among the first students accepted. After a year at Coastal she found her true calling at Bennettsville College of Cosmetology. She opened her own successful salon, the Mt. Pleasant Beauty Salon, in 1974. She continued her career as a talented hair designer for 35 years.
Her artistic nature extended well beyond the salon's doors. She decorated cakes, arranged flowers, embroidered, gardened, cooked home made meals every day and provided a welcoming home for both family and friends.
While in Myrtle Beach in 1965, Nancy would meet Thomas McCombs. They would fall in love and enjoy 50 years together as husband and wife.
She is survived by her children Cheral McCombs and husband Steve Hamby of Charleston, Bryan McCombs and wife DeAnne McCombs of Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by three sisters, Eunice Roberts of Galivants Ferry, Iris Carroll of Conway, Hazel Hammock of Atlanta, and brother Lynwood Lambert of Orangeburg. Nancy was predeceased by brothers Herman Lambert and Ravenel Lambert, both of Conway.
The McCombs family would like to extend a special thank you to Nancy's best friend of 49 years, Ms. Terry Morris. Terry's unwavering support throughout this extended illness has been a source of strength for them and for her. Heartfelt gratitude goes out to Ms. Morris.
Thank you also to niece Karen Roberts for her special care and kindness.
After a long and painful battle, Nancy Carolyn McCombs died peacefully in her home surrounded by her friends and family, just as she had wished.
