Nancy Dayenu Salvo Kruger

Nancy Dayenu Salvo Kruger, 86 years old, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. She was the widow of Louis John Kruger. Nancy was born on July 6, 1939 to the late Victor A. Salvo and Duma Hair Salvo. She attended Mitchell Elementary School and graduated from Rivers High School. After graduation she attended USC briefly and was still a fan of their women’s basketball team up until her passing. She started her career in computer services at the Citadel and retired from the College of Charleston. It was during this time that Nancy went back to work a few days a week and started volunteering at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Here, she found her love for history and was instrumental in starting the archive and history committee. Between this and researching family history with a niece, Nancy found a calling which she enjoyed for many years. She continued to be involved in her church counting the weekly collection, serving as a docent, and participating in the ladies circle.

Tailgating at Citadel football games with her family and friends from the Groves was a favorite pastime of Nancy’s. She always enjoyed a reason to celebrate and have fun even in her later years. On the other hand, Nancy was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She always made it a point to visit with her siblings and their families. She was willing to do whatever she could to help a family member or friend out. She has been a true blessing to so many people. She enjoyed using the gifts that she was given and made her corner of the world a more beautiful place, especially in helping to care for family and friends. The world today could use more Nancys.

When Nancy received her diagnosis in late January, she never once questioned it. She accepted it and handled it gracefully, never complaining.

Nancy is survived by 13 nieces and nephews, Robert V. Utsey, Linda U Hoose, William H. Utsey, Thomas W. Utsey, J. Lawrence Salvo, Vicki S. Garbett, Craig A. Salvo, Victor A. Salvo, Rebecca E. Leitch, Ann Marie Forsberg, Vincent P. Kaiser, Ursula K. Ferguson and Jane L. Kaiser. She is survived by Louis’s daughters Beth Kruger, Kim Richardson and Cindy Smith. Additionally, Nancy is also survived by a very dear friend, Kim Bowers. All of Nancy’s siblings to include Mary Utsey, Victor A Salvo, Lorraine Leitch, and Ursula Kaiser predeceased her as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

The memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 12:30 in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 405 King St., Charleston, SC 29403. The visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:30-12:15 in the church hall. The final committal will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 405 King St. Charleston, SC 29403 or Lutheran Hospice Lowcountry, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
