It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Ramona Jenkins, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Nancy left this world peacefully in her sleep on August 12, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born on December 6, 1941, in Prince George County, Virginia, Nancy was the cherished daughter of Ollie-May Crow and Harold Wade McCarthy. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and an unwavering spirit. Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward Jenkins, her sister, Patricia McCarthy, and her brother, Kenneth McCarthy. She is survived by her devoted son, Willie Drayton, who carries forward her legacy.
Nancy and Edward Jenkins were united in marriage on August 3, 1971, in Pierce, Washington and they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising their son and sharing 55 beautiful years together. Nancy's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she became a neighborhood mom to the younger navy wives, offering guidance and support with her characteristic strength and a lotta bit of sarcasm.
A dedicated member of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church, Nancy was known for her take charge personality and her formidable presence despite her petite stature. Her love for life was evident in her passions, which included tending to her beloved plants, immersing herself in books, and seeking treasures in thrift stores. She was the family's fiercest advocate, especially when it came to the children, always encouraging their education and growth.
Nancy's creativity knew no bounds; she delighted in crafting gifts from crochet and needlepoint projects to hand-painted ceramics, each piece a testament to her love and skill. Many will fondly remember her competitive spirit in games of Bingo and spades, where she was often vocal about the last call or previous play.
Those who knew Nancy will remember her as "feisty," a term she often used to describe herself with a wink and a smile. Her kitchen was a sanctuary where problems were solved over hearty meals, though her switch to Splenda became a family tale of its own. Despite enduring multiple surgeries and battling depression, Nancy's indomitable spirit saw her through the toughest of times.
A Celebration of Nancy's life will be held on August 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Holmes Avenue Baptist Church, located at 4602 Durant Ave, North Charleston, SC 29405. Interment will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort, SC. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Bryan Ayer and the congregation of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church, Stuhr’s Funeral Home, Amedisys Hospice team, and to all who have offered support and prayers during this time.
Nancy Jenkins will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.
