Entered into eternal life on the afternoon of October 31, 2011, Nancy Patricia Harris Dennis, widow of John Charles Dennis. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Spirit Catholic Church Chapel, Thursday, November 3, 2011, at 2 pm. Following the funeral service, the family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL between 5 and 7 pm Thursday evening. Committal services will be conducted in Beaufort National Cemetery, Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11 am.
Born on September 11, 1939 in Flushing, New York, Nancy was the daughter of the late Herbert B. Harris and the late Hannah Elizabeth Curren Harris. Nancy graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Springfield, Illinois and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Nancy was a lifelong elementary teacher. She taught in Illinois, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Peru, and Russia before moving to Seabrook Island, SC. She recently retired from the Charleston County School District. She was formerly of 2042 Bayhill Drive, Charleston, SC and was a member of the Hickory Hill Garden Club. She attended both St. Joseph Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Jean Dennis (Matthew) Silveston of Charleston, Patricia Lynn Dennis (Scott) DuBray of North Charleston, Karen Anne Dennis (Randall) French of Charleston; two sisters, Linda Harris (Earle) Holsapple of Johns Island and Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, Mary Ann (Donald) Killoren of Webster Groves, Missouri. Namma is also survived by five precious grandchildren, Rhiannon, Hannah, Brendan, Kellyn and John Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
