Entered into eternal rest on the evening of June 22, 2011, Nancy Gaillard Cobb, widow of Reverend Canon Samuel Thompson Cobb.


Mrs. Cobb was born April 22, 1928 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of Peyre Gaillard and Hazel Lemke Gaillard.  She was a graduate of Wesleyan School of Atlanta, Georgia and had a Bachelors of Fine Art from Wesleyan College of Macon, Georgia.


Nancy and Sam were married in 1952. Ms. Cobb moved to Charleston with her husband in 1964 when Reverend Cobb assumed the role of rector at St. Philips Episcopal Church and was a fixture known for her "southern charm" in the St. Philips and Charleston communities.


She was a lover of antiques, needlepoint, Southern Living magazine, travel and all things Charleston.  She and Sam's travels took them to Colombia, England, Yugoslavia, Hong Kong and Thailand.


She is survived by one son: Gil Cobb and his wife Barbara of Portland, Oregon and three grandchildren: Alicia Cobb of New York, New York, Jesse Cobb of Bangor, Washington and Maile Cobb of Portland, Oregon; as well three nephews, Gene, Ted and Wesley Gaillard all of Atlanta.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Gaillard.


Ms. Cobb spent her final years in the loving care of the staff at Bishop Gadsden.


There will be hell to pay if there are no grits in heaven.


Funeral Services will be held Thursday July 14th at 11:30 am at the graveside in St. Philip's Episcopal Churchyard.
