Nancy Simmons Bell

May 10, 1936 — August 9, 2011

Nancy Simmons Bell, 75, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on August, 9, 2011, after a four-year battle with cancer.  A memorial service will be held at J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant; at 11:00 am on Friday, August 12, 2011.  The family will host a visitation immediately following the service.

Formerly of Walterboro, Nancy served as the church secretary at Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, and later worked for the town's weekly newspaper, the Press and Standard.  Prior to her retirement, she also served as secretary for St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Daughter of the late Victor and Estelle Simmons of Clinton, Nancy is survived by her husband, John Bell of Mt. Pleasant; her son, Jeff Wrenn of Summerville; and her daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and David Cleveland of Charleston.  Also surviving are her four sisters: Inez Drummond of Woodruff, Jean Putnam and husband James of Simpsonville, Barbara Hunter and husband Toby of Greenville, and Joyce Farmer and husband Jim of Spartanburg.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Matthew Kohler and the entire gynecology-oncology team at MUSC for the excellent and loving care they provided to Nancy over the last four years, and also to thank the staff at Hospice of Charleston for their compassionate attention during her final days.  Thanks also to the many friends and family members who helped out and brightened our lives.  You are far too many to mention by name, but you know who you are.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Nancy by hugging someone you love.  Life is short.
