Myrna Kay (Vandertill) Nicolette, PhD, passed away March 24, 2013 after a valiant battle with leukemia. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Myrna was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on January 17, 1953. She was the only daughter of the late Donald Steven Vandertill and Katherine Faye Tidwell. Myrna was the loving mother of five wonderful children who she treasured and lived for.
She attended Creston High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She received a bachelor degree from Western Michigan University. She received her PhD from North Texas State University in psychology. She was an Associate Professor at Charleston Southern University and taught for 16 years in the Psychology Department and participated in Psi Chi Psychology Club. She loved to teach and loved working with her students in a Christian environment.
Myrna was a member of Seacoast Church in Mount Pleasant, SC and volunteered at The Dream Center in North Charleston, SC.
Myrna loved to travel and went on many missions trips with students and faculty from CSU. She enjoyed playing tennis, reading, genealogy and activities with her family. She loved to learn and was constantly reading and studying history, political figures and society in general.
She is survived by her husband Harold Roy Nicolette, her sons, Travis (Elizabeth), Trey, Taylor, Timothy; her daughter, Tara; her brother, Michael (Pamela Klein) Vandertill; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Charleston Southern University, Lightsey Chapel at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. Friends and family may call at Stuhr's Funeral Home Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1464 Mathis Ferry Road on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
