Myrl Antley Tuten, daughter of Thomas and Nettie Antley; widow of William Walter Tuten, passed away on January 12, 2023, at the age of 101. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 12:00 pm. Entombment to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 3093 Ashley River Rd, Charleston SC 29414. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
In her early years, Myrl was involved in many activities during her children's school days as a room mother, and chaperone. She and William (husband) were adventurous and enjoyed traveling all over the United States, Canada, and then Hawaii with her niece. For over 40 years, Myrl tended her beloved garden and participated in a bowling league.
She served the Lord throughout her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, SC, holding many positions in her Sunday school class and prayer room on Fridays. She also took the trip of a lifetime with the church to the Holy Land.
Myrl is survived by 4 children, Walter Ronald Tuten of Cottageville, SC, James Carlisle Tuten, Sr. of Goose Creek, SC, Tolbert Bryiant Tuten of Hanahan, SC and Nancy and Tommy Rourk of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myrl is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, WIlliam W. Tuten, Jr.; Sisters, Bill Holcombe, Mable Owens, Pauline Graham, Annie Culpepper, and Catherine Hartzog; as well as, stepsister Louise Antley; stepbrother, James Antley; and daughters-in-law, Ellen Tuten and Mary Ellen Tuten.
The family would like to thank her caregiver, Darlinda Green.
