Heaven gained a beautiful soul when Myra Lynne Jordan passed peacefully in her home on the morning of October 6, 2025.
Myra was born in Columbia, SC on March 15th, 1942. The eldest child of Fritz and Mary Williams, she grew up in the small town of Swansea, SC alongside her siblings Sandra, Al, and Stephen. She developed an affinity and talent for music at a young age, and became an accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist. After graduating from Swansea High School, she studied music at the University of South Carolina and subsequently took a position as Director of Music at Edwards Memorial Church in West Columbia. It was while attending church at Swansea Baptist that she was introduced to the love of her life, Wendell Jordan, by a mutual friend. After dating for six months, they were engaged, and they married six months after that on November 16th, 1963. The loving couple welcomed their first child Lee, followed by Randall a few years later, and then the girls, Sonya and Miranda. Myra and Wendell took great care in creating a stable, Christian home for their children, full of laughter and unconditional love. On cold winter mornings, she would have Wendell build a fire in the fireplace while she warmed the children’s clothes in the dryer so that they could put them on by the hearth while eating cinnamon toast before school. Both great cooks, the Jordans became well-known for their Sunday dinners, which seemed to grow bigger each year as the children brought their friends, then got married and brought their own children. Myra just kept adding more tables in the house and more food in the kitchen to make sure everyone was well-fed and well-loved.
While enjoying her role as wife and mother, Myra continued to serve the Lord through music. She and Wendell moved to Charleston, SC in 1970. She became Director of Music and Organist at Grace United Methodist Church, where she served for 11 years. She then became Director at North Charleston United Methodist Church, where she would serve faithfully for the next 32 years until she retired in September of 2013 to care for her aging parents. Throughout her career, she was more than just the organist and director of the adult, youth, and children's choirs, she was a true Minister of Music. She took her calling seriously and made sure that the sacred music for each church service was relevant to the scripture, as well as teaching children the meaning behind the songs they would sing. The Chancel Choir became extended family to her, and under her tutelage became renowned as one of the best in the region, traveling across the state to share His word through music. She undoubtedly brought many young people to develop a love for God and music during their time in the choirs, performing elaborate musicals and cantatas. Being a perfectionist in every endeavor, her deep faith and her love of music were evident in each note she played.
As much as she delighted in motherhood and serving the church, it was probably her title of “Nana” that brought her the most joy. With 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, she made it her mission to spoil them all as much as humanly possible. For many years there was always a spare crib, a plethora of toys for different ages, and she made sure that each grandchild’s favorite treat was always well-stocked. She took notes on the cute, funny things they would say and do as little ones, and then of their accomplishments as they grew older. She was so proud of every single one of them.
The true Matriarch of the family, Myra made sure that although it was growing larger, everyone remained tightly-knit, and supportive of one another. She was so grateful to Wendell, her great love and husband of 62 years, who cared for her tirelessly and with great devotion so that she could remain at home, sitting by her big bay window watching the birds, squirrels and deer in the backyard. To say she had a life well-lived is an understatement. Myra accomplished everything she set out to do and more. Although she didn’t want to leave her family and loved ones, she was ready to be with the Lord and reunite with those that went before her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Fritz Williams, and her brother, Al Williams.
She is survived by her husband Wendell Jordan, her children Lee Jordan, Randall Jordan, Sonya Hilton (Steven), and Miranda Stonecypher (Charlie), her sister Sandra Shivers (Benjamin), her brother Stephen Williams, her grandchildren Ashley Jordan, Jared Jordan (Anastasia), Jeffrey Mongold, Aloha Ruane (Samson), Serena Infinger (Tyler), Steven Hilton Jr., Chet Hilton, Ethan Hilton, Quinn Stonecypher, and her great-grandson, Jaxon Jordan.
The life of Myra Lynne Jordan is a beautiful story of love, loyalty and service to her Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved family. This is her legacy.
