Mrs. Burnett was born June 5, 1929 in Awendaw, SC, a daughter of the late Carlisle Clifton (C.C.) Forte and Ione Murrell Forte. She was raised in Awendaw and always fondly remembered her childhood there. She married and raised her children in Mount Pleasant. She then went to work part-time for the John Huguley Company on King Street once her youngest child entered grammar school. She later worked at St. Francis Hospital at the information desk until her retirement at the age of 65. She retired so that she could take care of her grandson, Will, full time and said, "they were the best years of her life."
Murrell was a long time member of Hibben United Methodist Church and regularly attended the Aurie Way Sunday School Class. She loved to travel, cook, walk, go antiquing and was always ready to do anything fun that her daughters suggested. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She is survived by her daughters: Pamela Burnett Dowling (Wayne) of Mount Pleasant, and Linda Marie Burnett of James Island. She has a sister, Betty Ann Thames of Mount Pleasant and a brother, Carlisle Nelson Forte of Mount Pleasant. She has one grandchild, William Cameron Dowling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cameron Scharff Burnett, her son, Gregory Scharff Burnett, and by her sister, Dorothy Forte Ackerman.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, P. O. Box 583, Mount Pleasant, SC 29465.
