Muriel was born February 13, 1916, in Charleston, South Carolina. She was the last surviving child of the late Sophie Prystowsky Solomon and Sam Solomon, the founder of Sam Solomon Co. Muriel was a graduate of Memminger High School and attended the College of Charleston and the University of Maryland.

An astute business woman, Muriel assisted in the family business and also owned her own retail shop in Charleston. Throughout her life, Muriel was a passionate volunteer, freely giving her time to the community, her synagogue and numerous charities and causes. During World War II, she cared for wounded service members at Stark Naval Hospital. In 1958, she was a founder and charter member of the Roper Hospital Auxiliary (often known as the "Pink Ladies") and provided nearly 50 years of service to that organization. As the longest serving volunteer, she represented the volunteers at the dedication ceremony of the hospital's new Heart and Vascular Tower in 2006. She helped to establish a diabetes clinic at MUSC Hospital and also did volunteer work for the city's dialysis clinic, the March of Dimes, Spoleto Festival USA and a number of local political campaigns.

Muriel was a past president of the Charleston chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women, and she was a member of Hadassah, Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue and the Sisterhoods of both Brith Sholom and Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim.

Muriel was pre-deceased by her husband, Joseph Stillman, and by her siblings: Naomi Friedman, Aaron Solomon, Melvin Solomon and Frances Jacobson.

She is survived by her two daughters, Martha S. Silverman of Atlanta, GA and her husband, Dr. Barry Silverman, and Kate Stillman, of Charleston, SC; by her grandson, John Auerbach of New York, NY; by her sister-in-law, Gertrude Solomon of Atlanta, GA; and by many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Muriel's dedicated team of caregivers who provided loving care for her at home.
