Msg Michael Nicholas Savarese US Army

Entered into eternal rest on the evening of September 10, 2010, MSG Michael Nicholas Savarese, US Army (Ret.), husband of Johanna E. Savarese.  Residence, Goose Creek, SC.  Relatives and friends of MSG and Mrs. Michael N. Savarese are invited to attend the funeral service of the former at Dorchester Memory Gardens Mausoleum Monday, September 13, 2010 at eleven o'clock .  Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, N. Charleston, Sunday between six and eight o'clock.


MSG Savarese was born July 24, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Nicholas Savarese and Theresa Marie Tronolone Savarese.  He retired as an engineer in the U.S. Army after more than 22 years of service; his distinguished career included service during World War II.  Michael was a member of American Legion Post #166 in Goose Creek and the V.F.W.  He served 20 years in Civil Service as the Housing Manager at Fort Dix, NJ, where he also served as president of American Federation of Government Employees and served at Charleston Naval Weapons Station.   Later he worked for the Berkeley County School System for 10 years and volunteered for 20 years at Trident Medical Center.


He is survived by his wife of 62 years; two daughters, Maureen S. Morris and husband, George, of Hanahan and Teresa M. Puhala and husband, Edward, of Savannah, GA; a son, Michael N. Savarese, Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Mt. Holly, NJ; four grandchildren, Steven Morris , Christopher Morris and wife, Tara, Nicholas Puhala and wife, Lisa, and Jonathan Puhala; and five great grandchildren. 


In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC  29406 or the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC  29406.
