Mrs. Mildred Lewis Brooker

Mrs. Mildred Lewis Brooker, age 97, passed away on April 2, 2024. Mrs. Brooker (also known as Milli) was born on November 8, 1926, in Conway, S.C., the daughter of the late Oma Benjamin Lewis, and the late Alberta Graham Lewis. She was married to the late Lucius Cuthbert Brooker, Jr. (also known as LC). Millie and LC were a loving couple for 34 years before LC passed away in 1988.

Throughout her life Milli served her community faithfully in the Columbia and Sumter Garden Clubs, as president of the Iris Garden Club, Girl Scout Leader, church volunteer, and a member of Sumter-Shaw Community Concert Association. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia and Sumter. In her personal life she was LC’s business partner in their business ventures which included publishing, brick manufacturing, car wash facilities, home security, and property management. In addition to her amazing business acumen, Milli was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Always curious, she had a love for travel. She accompanied her son, daughter, and daughter in-law as they explored the world.

Survivors include her son Lucius Cuthbert Brooker, III and his wife Linda Olson Brooker of Lone Tree, CO, and daughter Deborah Stivender Brooker of Mt Pleasant, SC; her four grandchildren Lauren Christen Florman, Benjamin Lucius Brooker, Graham Brooker Stolte, and Brooker Leigh Stolte Stewart, and her three great grandchildren Sage Florman, Sadie Florman, and Jonah Stolte. Included in the list of those who called her Mimi are her grandsons in-law Justin Florman and Travis Stewart; and her granddaughter in-law, Brianna Stolte, Jimmy Miller, Kate Miller, Aliza Miller, Corbin Miller, Alex Olson and Olga Radyushkina-Olson.

Millie was the third among a family of six siblings and was predeceased by both parents and all five of her siblings: her brother Odell Lewis and her sisters Cecil Davis Robinson, Bernice Jones, Frances Clanton, and Mary Moore.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dottie Todd for her compassionate care during Milli’s last few years.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. with Rev. Holton Seigling of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. The committal service will be held 3:00 pm Thursday, April 4, 2024 in Melrose Memorial Gardens, Swansea, SC. Memorials may be made to East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) 1145, Six Mile Rd., Mt.
