Monwell Evans

GMGC Monwell Evans, USN Ret., 92, of Goose Creek, SC, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016. His funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the Ridge Baptist Church, 2168 Ridge Church Road at 2:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.

Monwell was born May 26, 1924 in Leo, SC, son of the late James Cullie Evans and the late Iners Mae McDaniel Evans. Monwell served in the US Navy for 27 years and was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War. He worked in civil service in Pomflant division for 17 years. He was a member of the Masonic Fellowship Lodge #400, was a deacon in Ridge Baptist Church and Northside Baptist for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy P. Evans, of Goose Creek, SC; son, Dannie M. Evans (Sherry) of Summerville, SC; three daughters, Dorothy Elona Campbell (Larry) of Jacksonville, FL, Angela Fiedler (Bob) of Elizabeth City, NC, Evonne Copeland (Greg) of Bonneau, SC; special family, Leila O'Neal (Danny) of Summerville, SC and Lynn Leedy (Tommy) Ridgeville, SC; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by brothers: Willard B. Evans, Gerald W. Evans, Darby J. Evans and Vernon C. Evans sister, Melva E. Culick.
