Monty Silvers, 76, devoted husband of 38 years to Lynda Sanderson Silvers, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on September 2, 2015. His funeral service will be held Sunday, September 6, 2015 in Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 3075 Bees Ferry Road at 3 p.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday in the church from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Monty was born January 7, 1939, in Clinton, TN to the late W. Kenneth Silvers and Helen Scruggs Silvers. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1957 and joined the U.S Naval Reserves. He attended Gardner-Webb University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville when he was drafted into active duty. Monty served on the submarine USS Requin and the Navy eventually brought him to Charleston. In 1964 he accepted a draftsman position at Naval Electronics (which through various name changes is now known as SPAWAR Charleston). On the GI Bill, Monty attended and graduated from Trident Technical College as an Electronics Technician. After 35 years of outstanding government service, Monty retired from SPAWAR in 1998.

Monty and Lynda, who also worked for NAVELEX/SPAWAR, married in 1977. With a blended family, together they raised five children; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Survived by his loving wife, Lynda; son M. Scott Silvers; daughters M. Jill Silvers, Michelle Holloman Baker (Bill), and Laura Holloman Brown; grandchildren Allexis Silvers Underwood (Cody), Alyson Baker Capone (John), Sara Baker, Corey Silvers, Ashlee Baker, Brandon Silvers and Clay Brown. Great-grandchildren Taylor, Kyla, Savanna, Camdyn, Sarenity, Coltyn, William, Jackson and Dorian (born 9/3); sister-in-law Barbara Stroud (Carlisle) nephews David Stroud (Lynette) and Frederick Stroud (Barbara); and his treasured Tennessee cousins Libby Price, Shannon Biggs (Monte), Bobbie Lynn Wray, and Candy McGlasson (Ralph). Monty was pre-deceased by his parents; son, Jeffrey H. Holloman; son-in-law, Ricky Baker and grandson, Eric Brown.

More than anything, Monty loved his God, his Church, and his family. He was a Charter Member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church and served as Church Council President. He was on the Fellowship, Social Ministry, Sanctuary Building, and Financial committees, he also served as a Tabulator. Monty was an active member of the Keenagers, Sunday School and Bible Study classes. He was so excited about our new Sanctuary, so in lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church Sanctuary Building Fund in his memory.
