Monte Fried of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Eileen Gordon Fried, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Saturday, May 16, 2026. His funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim (KKBE) Synagogue, 90 Hasell Street. Interment will follow at KKBE Cemetery Huguenin Ave. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Monte was born on April 3, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland; the son of the late Samuel and Beatrice Pollakoff Fried. He was a proud graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and he earned his JD from the University of Maryland. He also served as a Captain in the US Army Reserve JAG Corp. Monte then practiced law in Baltimore for 50 years, the last 23 of which were at Wright, Constable and Skeen, where he served as the managing partner. Amongst his many accomplishments as an attorney, he served as the Chairman of the Character Committee for the Court of Appeals of Maryland. As long-time beach lovers who spent their summers and most weekends in Bethany Beach, Delaware, Monte and Eileen retired to Charleston in 2015.
Throughout his life, Monte remained committed to service in the Jewish community. He served as the president of the Baltimore JCC from 1982 to 1986. Once retired to Charleston, Monte dedicated his time and energy to innumerable volunteer activities at KKBE.
Monte is survived by his wife, Eileen, by his daughters Rachael (Marc); Andrea (Michael,) his sons David (Amy) and Matthew (Marsha); and his grandchildren, Benjamin, Sam, Isaac, Gabby, Aly, Noah, Ollie, and Kaio; and his sister, Lenny.
