Mittiena Gilreath Johnson, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late Marion G. Johnson Jr, entered into eternal rest Friday, January 31, 2025. 

Mittiena was born June 2, 1931 in Hiddente, North Carolina, daughter of the late Cleave Gilreath and Grace Kerley Gilreath. She was one of 15 children with 8 sisters and 6 brothers. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Oakland and upon their closure, joined the Church of the Holy Communion in downtown Charleston. She dedicated herself to various organizations and committees in the Charleston community and the Episcopal Church. These activities included the church choir, alter guild, meals on wheels, and providing Eucharist to the home bound church members. She was a member of the Daughters of the King. 

Mittiena was a life long artist. She loved to paint and when her children were small, she painted Coat of Arms to supplement her income. She provided illustrations for her schools, from elementary (where she was asked to draw seasonal art on the blackboards for various teachers) to high school, providing illustrations for her yearbooks. Mittiena was employed and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. During her employment she received a variety of achievement awards for her hard work and dedication.Mittiena was the matriarch of her family and very active and loving to her grandchildren. She was referred to as The Mimi with everyone vying to be her favorite. 

She is survived by four daughters, Cynthia Johnson Waltz, Nancy Leah (Thomas) Brooks, Jayne Johnson (Douglas) Matney, Rainee Johnson (Martin Stoudenmire); two sisters, Alice Robertson and Bonnie Osmer ; 8 Grandchildren, Mandi Waltz Fahney (Jonathan), Giff Waltz, Rylan Jager (Amy), Logan Jager (Katie), Austin Jager (Danielle), Marian Matney, Rhys Matney and Victoria Hill (Lee). 9 Great grandchildren, Tanner Fahney, McKenna Fahney, Zoe Jager, Mae Jager, Brooks Jager, Carson Jager, Grady Jager, Milo Hill and Eloise Hill.
