Miriam D. Horne

June 6, 1916 — November 29, 2010

Miriam Horne, a loving step-mother, grandmother, widow of Barnard Glenn Horne, and previously widowed by John Sullivan, entered into eternal rest on the morning of November 29, 2010.  She was born June 6, 1916 outside of Wadesboro, NC, daughter of the late Frances M. Dabbs and Sarah Rogenous Hildreth Dabbs.


Mrs. Horne was a resident of Hanahan, SC.  She is survived by one step-daughter, Clara H. Polutta (Pete) of North Charleston, SC and three step-sons, Glenn B. Horne (Cynthia) and Ray M. Horne (Linda) of Hanahan, SC and Willie T. Horne (Paula) of Charleston, SC; daughter-in-law, Sarah Horne; sister, Anna Bell Tyndall; and two brothers, Ernest and Frank Dabbs all of Garland, NC; grandchildren:  Angela Horne, Glenda Horne, Kevin Horne; Debbie Balao, Cathy Robertson, Roger Dangerfield, Rick Horne; Donna Horne, Phyllis Norton, Jay Horne, Alan Horne, Will Phillips; Tammy Teigen, Diana Prather, Darren Polutta; Robin Stanford, William Horne, Jeffrey Horne; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her step-son, Eli and her brothers Francis Eugene Dabbs "Gene", John David Dabbs "J.D.", Rufus Clayton Dabbs "Click", Thomas Lacy Dabbs, Theron Randolph Dabbs "Tib", and Amos Dabbs. 


She was a longtime active member of Midland Park United Methodist Church and has served as President of United Methodist Women and her circle and had been an active community volunteer with Meals on Wheels.  She was a graduate of High Point School in North Carolina.  She was a homemaker and seamstress but also had worked in a Canteen during WWII along with being employed many years by Charleston Rubber Company.  Although limited in later years in her ability to travel she did greatly relish trips to visit with family and friends and always looked forward to visitors.  She loved life, people, cooking and cross-stitching.  Her loving heart brought much joy to so many. 


The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Midland Park United Methodist Church; friends may view one hour prior to the service.  Officiating will be the Reverend Leonard Ripley and Reverend Chris Peagler.  Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery, Charleston, SC.  The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road on Friday, December 3, 2010 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
