Miriam Carney Cohen "Beaufy," 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Donald S. Cohen passed away peacefully with her family by her side Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Her Funeral Service will be held graveside Thursday, February 5, 2015 in Emanu-El Cemetery, Sycamore Avenue, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Miriam was born May 10, 1926 in Athens, Alabama, daughter of Israel Carney and Rose Bernstein Carney. Her family moved to Nashville, Tennessee before she married her husband, Don, and moved to Charleston.
Miriam was a tenacious lover of her family. She was also co-owner of Mister Don Shoes and Dance in South Windermere Shopping Center. She was in the shoe business along side her family for 61 years. Miriam was a member of Synagogue Emanu-El, Hadassah and Women's American ORT.
She is survived by her daughter, Michele "Missy" C. Gold (Martin); three grandsons Randy Gold (Caroline), Jeffrey Gold (Marla) and Robert Silverstein (Perri); as well as her six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Natanel, Eden, Shai, Stella, and Julianna. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Cohen Silverstein (Howard).
