Eloise Deaton Petty Eloise Deaton Petty, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013, at Ashley River Plantation after several months of declining health. A Service to celebrate the life of Eloise Petty will be held in North Charleston United Methodist Church, 1125 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston, on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Wendy Hudson-Jacoby officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in Davis Hall at the church. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Eloise was born May 17, 1924, in Spartanburg, SC, a daughter of the late Lester Shell Deaton and Sallie Lee Deaton. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School. Eloise was retired from the Greenville County Courthouse, RMC Office. She was a member of North Charleston United Methodist Church. During her many years in the life of the church, she served on various committees within the church; as a member of the Worship Committee, she managed the acolytes, a service very dear to her heart. Eloise was a member of the Potpourri Mission Group, Young at Heart Fellowship, United Methodist Women, Elizabeth Vickery Circle, and Friendship Sunday School Class. She loved working in her yard and taking care of her beloved cats over the years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, The Reverend Paul DeWitt Petty; a brother; Woodrow Wilson Deaton; a sister, Cleo Deaton Loftis and a grandson, Paul DeWitt Petty, III.
She is survived by her son, Paul DeWitt Petty Jr., and his wife, Lynda Pilgrim Petty of Clarkesville, GA, two daughters, Sandra Petty Brown and her husband, Dr. Carroll S. "Pete" Brown, of Charleston, SC and Deborah Koll-Petty and her husband, Heinz Koll of Vienna, Austria; two sisters-in-law, Glenda Deaton of Bridgeport, VA, Helen Petty Hunter of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Kevin Ashley Petty and his wife Melissa Joyner Petty of Canton, GA, Adrienne Brown-Wilson and her husband, James Wilson of Palmetto Bay, FL, Courtney Elizabeth Brown of Lubbock, TX, Jonathan Adam Petty of Clarkesville, GA., Alexandra Elise Koll of Vienna, Austria, Patricia Louise Koll of Vienna, Austria; great grandchildren, Spencer DeWitt Petty and Lindsay Eloise Petty of Canton, GA, Isabelle Brown-Wilson and Olivia Brown-Wilson of Palmetto Bay, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, and her faithful companion kitty, Funny Face.
