Mount Pleasant

Millie Ann Phillips Rogers

Millie was known by all as an incredibly kind and caring woman who loved her family and friends with all of her heart. She was soft-spoken and polite with a rare and endearing G-rated sense of humor. Her late husband, her children, and her grandchildren were the absolute pride and joy of her life and it was written all over the smile she wore in their presence or when speaking about them. Millie Phillips Rogers, 87, of Mount Pleasant, SC died peacefully on January 4, 2025 at Savannah Grace.

Millie was born in Florence, SC in 1937 to Edgar Patrick Phillips and Mildred Lowery Phillips. She received her BS in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1959, where she was recognized with Honor Roll and Dean's List distinctions.

Millie married Andrew ("Andy") Buchannan Rogers of Charleston, SC in 1962, and they raised their four children on the Isle of Palms where the family took advantage of everything the Lowcountry had to offer, including regular days on the beach or on the boat. (Notably, Andy named every boat he owned the "Millie Maru.") Andy's death preceded Millie's by 20 years, but he remained the love of her life.

Though she spent over two decades with very limited eyesight, Millie was fiercely independent and would not be fussed over. Before moving into The Palms retirement community, and subsequently Savannah Grace, Millie lived in Seaside Farms. Despite her children’s and friends’ best efforts to be called on when she needed something, she regularly walked the two-mile trip to the grocery store and back and used public transportation to run other errands. Somehow, with minimal vision, she was always beautifully put together and was known for having just the right scarf for every outfit.

Millie was a lifelong card player, particularly bridge, and spent many hours communing with friends and family over cards. She also loved good food with generous amounts of butter, sweet tea, a wide variety of music, dogs, Gamecock football, naps, and bacon.

What cannot be overstated is how deeply she loved her family and friends and how immeasurably proud she was of her children and grandchildren. She will be forever missed but lives on in the hearts and memories of all who loved her. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Buchannan Rogers; her brother, Edgar Allen Phillips; and her parents, Edgar Patrick Phillips and Mildred Lowery Phillips. She is survived by her children, Lisa Dunahoe (Brent) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Jennifer Albers (Axel) of Hage, Germany, Andrea Rogers (Rebecca) of Isle of Palms, SC, and Andrew Rogers (Christine) of Mount Pleasant, SC; her nine grandchildren, including Caroline McDavid (Korey), Katelyn Dunahoe (Heather), Zachary Dunahoe (Amy), Erin Mitchell (Grant), Remy Rogers, and Buchannan Rogers; and her great-grandchildren including, Sawyer, Patterson, Carson, Kennedy, and Amelia.

The family will have a private graveside memorial service.
