Mrs. Westbrook was born on June 2, 1920 in Kershaw County, South Carolina, daughter of the late Leonard G. Gardner and Eunice Branham Gardner.  She retired as an administrative assistant with the Atomic Energy Commission in Aiken, South Carolina.  An avid gardener, Mildred loved plants and the way they beautify the world.  Early in her retirement, she enjoyed renovating old houses.  Current events and watching the stock market were also favorite past times for Mildred. For many years, she loved spending time at her cabin in the Yancey County, NC, mountains.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dixie Dunbar of Sullivan's Island, SC and her daughter, Justin Hartsell; and Sandra Bruenner and her husband, Dave of Isle of Palms, SC and their sons, Willy and David; one step-son, Bob Westbrook and his wife, Aimee of Mill Valley, CA and their children, Jackson, Grace, and Spencer.  She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews.  She was honored to be considered the matriarch of her family.  She was preceded in death by her husbands and her brothers and sisters.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those who knew and loved Mildred plant a tree in her honor. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
