Mildred Boykin Roberts of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Cole Roberts, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013. The daughter of the late Roland Robert Boykin and Ethel Stafford Boykin, Mrs. Roberts was born May 22, 1918 at Camden, South Carolina. She graduated from Central High School and married first husband, Samuel McLeod, before moving to Charleston during World War II. She was a division manager of ladies' fashion departments at Sears Roebuck and Company for 28 years. After retiring in 1981, she maintained a busy schedule traveling with her husband, socializing with the Sears retirement group, serving as social chairman for her Sunday school class, participating in the Sandhurst garden club, and taking an active role in the National Association for Retired Employees. For over fifty years, Mrs. Roberts was a devoted member of Charleston Heights Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for several years. She joined Northbridge Baptist Church in 2002. Mrs. Roberts loved her family and was dedicated to their happiness and success.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her daughter, Pamela Roberts, and son, John McLeod (Jeananne), both of Charleston; four sisters, Evelyn Rembert, Oree McLeod, Barbara Ardis (Willis), and Jewel Gardner (Grant); grandsons, Gavin McLeod (Lisa) of Charleston, Todd McLeod (Asuka) of California; great-grandchildren, John Finley McLeod and Emma Tyler McLeod. She was predeceased by sister Vivian Ratliff and brothers Willard Boykin, Murdick Jones, and Roland Boykin, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. at J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Saturday, June 8, 2013. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
