Mildred Bowling Johnston

May 22, 1919 — January 3, 2011

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of January 3, 2011, Mildred Bowling Johnston, widow of Howard Arthur "Barney" Johnston.  Residence, Charleston, SC.  The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service, Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 12 (noon) in Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. 


Mrs. Johnston was born in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Walter Scott Bowling, Sr. and Callie Allen Bowling.  She was a graduate of Memminger High School and a lifetime member of Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Official Board and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Johnston's lifetime enjoyments were gardening and cooking.


She is survived by her daughter: Linda Johnston Sproles (Joe) of Charleston, SC; one sister: Grace B. Wish (Merrill) of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Holly Padget Artigues (Ron), Wayne Grace, Jr. (Ashley), Lee Grace and Karen Grace; eight great grandchildren: Cali Artigues, Mariah Artigues, Caroline Grace, Wayne Keith Grace, III and Gracie Butler, David Carter, Bryce Krivan and Alicia Suarez; four nieces: Camille Bowling Wish, Jean Heffron Royal, Joan Heffron Moosally and Anne Bowling Owens; one nephew: Robert W. Heffron, Jr.  She was predeceased by a daughter: Carole Johnston Grace, a sister, Callie Bowling Heffron and a brother, Walter Scott Bowling, Jr.


Memorials may be made to Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church, 754 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403.
