Mildred G. DeHay, 98, of North Charleston, South Carolina, went home to heaven to join her beloved family and friends that have preceded her to God's house, April 28, 2017. The family will receive friends Sunday in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held Monday, May 1, 2017, in Doorway Baptist Church, 7825 Dorchester Road, at 11:00 a.m. Burial services will be held in Friendship Baptist Church, Barnwell, SC, at 3:00 p.m.
Mildred was born April 22, 1919, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, daughter of the late Aiken A. Gunnells and Susan Ellen Still Gunnells. She was a retired teacher from Dorchester Waylyn Baptist Church School, Little Red School House, and Children's Dreamland.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra DeHay Phillips (Michael) of Elon, NC; two sons, Verlie D. DeHay (Shirley) of Pineville, LA, and D. Fynn DeHay (Brenda) of West Union, SC; three grandchildren, Keith L. DeHay, Dr. Shea Phillips (Rev. Bryan Pigford), and Brynn DeHay, Esq.; and two great-grandchildren, Weston DeHay and Samantha Pigford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D. DeHay, and two children, Mike Dale DeHay and Sherry Faye DeHay.
