Mildred Browder Batten

August 31, 1916 — September 24, 2012

Mildred Browder Batten, 96, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Frank D. Batten, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, September 24, 2012. Her Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 28, 2012 in the First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street, at 1:00 pm. Interment, will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Mickey was born in Emporia, Virginia, daughter of Govna Gordon Browder and Bessie Holland Browder. At an early age she moved to Norfolk, VA where she graduated from Maury High School, later working as a supervisor at C and P Telephone Company in Norfolk. In 1950 she and her late husband Frank relocated to Charleston. .She was a former model, librarian at Mitchell Elementary School and a long time employee at MeadWestvaco. After her retirement she volunteered for many years at both Roper Hospital and the Historic Charleston Foundation. She loved to travel spending weeks over the years on trips around the United States, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean.

She is survived by her son: F. Daniel Batten, III (Susan) of Charleston, SC; 3 grandchildren: Leigh B. Lipscomb (Blake), Allison B. Wilkins (Jerrod), F. Daniel Batten, IV (Chrissie); 7 great grandchildren: John Martin Lipscomb, Margaret Claudia Lipscomb, Baker David Wilkins, Margaret Ann Wilkins, Elizabeth Carson Batten, F. Daniel Batten, V and Edward DeVeaux Batten; and her sister, Vivian B. Williams of Waverly, OH. She was predeceased by a great grandchild, Hudson Daniel Wilkins.
