Michelle Marie Fairbanks, of North Charleston, SC passed away peacefully in hospice care on January 21, 2026 following a courageous 7 year journey with spinal cancer.

Born on May 5, 1968 in Charleston, SC she was a woman of quiet strength and resilience. Even as illness took much from her body, it never took her spirit. She always tried keep some independence, continuing to get up each day and use her walker despite significant physical challenges—a testament to her will and perseverance.

She found joy in simple moments, especially playing games on her iPad, which brought her comfort, engagement, and a bit of fun during long days. Those moments reflected her ability to adapt and keep her mind active.

She is survived by her husband of over 37 years, Charles Fairbanks, as well as her daughter, Katherine Beaty (husband Nathaniel), and her son, Daniel Fairbanks. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary O'Brien, in 1998.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team at Lowcountry Community Hospice House, who provided compassion, dignity, and comfort during her final days.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 7th at J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home Northwoods Chapel 2180 Greenridge Road N. Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
