Michael Eugene Pennington, 55, of Johns Island, South Carolina, husband of Mary Lynn Holloway-Pennington, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. His funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Michael was born on January 26, 1970, in Charleston, South Carolina, the youngest son of Ruby Evelyn Wilson Pennington and the late Bobby Earl Pennington, Sr. He grew up in West Ashley and graduated from Middleton High School, where he was an active member of the concert and marching bands, playing both the saxophone and bass guitar.
A gifted musician, Michael was well known in the Charleston music scene, performing in numerous rock and pop bands across the Lowcountry. He played with several groups, including The Fire Apes, Loin, The Pansies, and The Hed Shop Boys, sharing his love of music with audiences throughout the area.
Beyond music, Michael had a deep passion for fishing. An expert freshwater angler, he could often be found casting a line in one of the Lowcountry’s many fishing spots. He was also an excellent cook who enjoyed grilling and smoking meats, always perfecting his craft in the kitchen.
Michael made his career in retail, first with Marshalls before transitioning to the automotive industry, where he spent over 30 years with Nissan. He started as a Parts Advisor at Morris Nissan on Savannah Highway and, through hard work and expertise, earned the position of Parts Manager before the dealership was acquired by Hudson Nissan. His expert knowledge of the parts inventory and his commitment to customer service earned him recognition as a top producer both locally and regionally for Nissan.
Michael will be remembered for his love of music, fishing, and great food, as well as his dedication to his work and community.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers, Bobby Earl Pennington, Jr. (Tamra) and Paul Legare Pennington (Nancy), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
