Michael (Mike) Rudolph Parades, 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Cissy Jane Parades, entered into eternal rest Friday, August 12, 2022. His funeral service and reception will be held Friday, August 26th at J. Henry Stuhr West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414 at 4pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Mike was born August 29, 1948, in Pueblo, Colorado, son of the late Rudolph W. Parades and Velma L. Yoller Johnston. He served in the U.S. Navy on the nuclear submarine USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN-641) before graduating top of his class at the College of Charleston. Michael went on to become a CPA and worked at one of the Big Four firms. He then became the Controller of Seabrook Island. After which, he started a community management firm, CCM Management, and was one of the first people in the state to hold the designations of PCAM and AAMC by the Community Associations Institute. Most recently, Mike was an expert witness in lawsuits involving community associations.
At the center of Mike’s life was always his family. When Mike was in the Navy he fell in love with Cissy, a Delta flight attendant. Less than a year and a half later, Cissy and Mike were married at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. Cissy and Mike were married for 51 years. Mike always saw the best in people and never met a stranger. He was an optimist through and through. He loved spending time in the mountains, grew up playing tennis and if he wasn’t with his 3 grandsons, he was on the golf course. He loved spending time with his family and friends. A supportive father, Mike was involved in parent associations at both Ashley Hall and Wofford College. He was always present on the sidelines eagerly cheering on the sports of his daughter and now his grandsons. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Courtney P. Plotner (Jeff); dearly loved grandsons Judson, Barnes and Tucker Plotner and brother, Gary Parades (Lu).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired SC (ABVI).
