Mr. Michael Lee Johnson, age 80 of Charleston, SC died peacefully surrounded by love on June 20, 2025.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Liza Fox Johnson; his son, Derek M. Johnson and his wife Heidi Rahn; grandchildren: Calvin Johnson and Sylvie Johnson of Portland, Oregon, his daughter, Jennifer R. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Howard I. Johnson and Ruth Aurand Johnson of Saline, Michigan; sister Patsy Ann Pellegrom of Midland, Michigan and brother; Gary R. Johnson of Marion, Indiana.

Michael was born on March 24, 1945 in Hannibal, Missouri. He graduated from Saline High, in Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. Later graduating with honors at the Wake Forest MBA Executive program. Michael completed Army flight school with honors before proudly serving a three year tour with the U.S. Army Air Cavalry, including one year in Vietnam flying helicopters. Upon returning he resumed his career in a senior management position with Hoover corporation in High Point, NC then joining Claud Gable as CFO and executive at Ruff Hewn. Subsequent opportunities united him as a Safety Consultant with Marsh McLennan and Quality Safety Edge where he found his greatest joy in promoting behavioral based safety.

Michael loved his country, the flag, all sports, flying, music, storytelling, traveling and being with people. He was a rare bright light who loved life. Our hearts are broken and we are eternally grateful for the endless love of the staff at the Currey Unit in The Victory House for their incredible care of Mike and all of those that have served our country.
