Michael Parsons Jenkins, 69, of Johns Island, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 15, 2025. His funeral service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, 265 N. Shelmore Blvd., Mount Pleasant at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends, Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm the Holy Ascension Orthodox Church. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Michael was born on December 23, 1955, in Pensacola, Florida, the son of the late Thomas Talbird Jenkins and Blanche Parsons Jenkins. He pursued his passion for nature as a horticulturalist, earning a degree in horticulture from Trident Technical College. He was also a certified arborist and served with the Isle of Palms Fire Department where he achieved the rank of Captain, showcasing his dedication to community and nature alike.
Michael’s love for plants was paramount, as he explored the Lowcountry in search of unique flora. As an entrepreneur, he established his own landscaping business before venturing into the wholesale sales of sweetgrass. He also contributed his skills by working at various local landscaping firms, and briefly, with local construction and housing companies.
He will be deeply missed by all of his immediate and extended family. Michael, though never married, created a family of his own through his beloved pets, including Sam, Sally, Anna, Joshua, and Arthur, with whom he now shares eternity.
He is survived by his siblings: Elizabeth Bulwinkle (Marion), Thomas Jenkins, Jr., John Jenkins (Kathryn), Bill Jenkins (Lisa), Jan Dicken (John), and Cyndy Pickel, and all his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas T. Jenkins in 2005 and Blanch Parsons Jenkins in 2003, as well as his brother Joseph, who passed away in 1960 and his brother-in-law, Mike Pickel, 2018.
The family expresses special appreciation to his extended family at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Mount Pleasant, SC, for their kindness and support over the years. Michael’s legacy will continue to blossom in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any local pet shelter, including Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd., North Charleston, SC 29406 and the Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
