Michael James Garvey, 74, of Charleston, SC, formerly of Columbia, SC for 40 years, died Saturday, December 20, 2014. His private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.
Michael was born February 15, 1940 in Rochester, New York, son of the late Paul Garvey and the late Marie Dwyer Garvey. He was a graduate of Pittsford (Sutherland) High School in 1957 and St. Bonaventure University. Mike was a retired partner and Vice President of The Crane Company in Cayce, SC. He was an excellent golfer and was club champion of Columbia Country Club for several years. For the last few years, Mike has been burdened with health issues; however, it never affected his pleasant manner.
He is survived by his longtime companion of thirty years, Betty Segal of Charleston, SC; a daughter, Mary Catherine Bytnar and husband, Scott, of Columbia, SC; a sister, Kathleen Uva of Plymouth, MA; and three grandchildren.
