Michael David Warren

Michael “David” Warren, 64, of James Island passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at home. David kicked the bucket from an aggressive cancer that took him before he got to retire.

David was born May 28, 1959 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Harold Jack Warren and Marian Virginia Gohagen Warren. As part of a military family he lived in New Orleans, L.A., Springfield, V.A., and San Juan, Puerto Rico until his father retired to James Island, S.C. in 1970. David grew up roaming the JI dirt roads and fishing on Clark Sound. He graduated from Fort Johnson High School in 1977 and from Clemson University in 1981 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. David worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard (‘82 -‘86), Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southern Division (‘86 -‘07), SPAWAR Facilities Division (‘07 -‘10), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Charleston as Dredging Project Manager (‘11 -‘15), and Charleston County School District Facilities Management Engineering Officer (‘15 -‘23). He was a longtime member of the Harborview Presbyterian Church and James Island Yacht Club. David could be found in his yard, sitting on the back porch watching the marsh and his bird feeders, or doing wife-generated projects. Boating, listening to music, and bragging about his daughters were his other favorite hobbies.

Everyone who knew David knows that he loved his family most of all. He leaves his wife Cheri Thomson Warren, daughter Caroline Warren and her husband Toby Maak, daughter Catherine “Catey” Warren, and sister-in-law Teresa Thomson Sabert and her family to figure out how to find things in the garage.

A service celebrating the life of David will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Harborview Presbyterian Church at 3:00 pm followed by a reception at the James Island Yacht Club from 4:30-6:30 pm. Due to hazardous weather conditions, the visitation scheduled for Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel has been CANCELLED.

Memorials can be made to or in lieu of flowers to Harborview Presbyterian Church or any food bank of your choosing.
