Meryl Disney Bulwinkle, 88, of Hanahan, SC, widow of Carson John "C.J." Bulwinkle, entered into eternal rest, after a long battle with Alzheimers, Friday, October 26, 2012. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 29, 2012, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, at 10:30 a.m. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel.
Meryl was born July 11, 1924 in Jellico, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Oliver S. Disney and the late Pauline Litton Disney. She was co-owner and vice president of Bulwinkle Real Estate for 45 years until her retirement. She was a South Carolina Real Estate Commissioner, a past member of the Charleston Realtor Association, past director of the National Association of Real Estate License Law Officials, served as vice-chairman of the South Carolina Real Estate Board and was a member of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. Meryl was one of the first women to serve on the S.C. Real Estate Commission and was instrumental in revising and upgrading the South Carolina Real Estate Manual to better assist those in the business and to prepare newcomers for examinations.
She was active in raising funds for the American Cancer Society, Heart Fund and Muscular Dystrophy. Meryl was a member of Northwood Baptist Church and truly loved her Sunday School Class.
Meryl was a devoted wife to the love of her life, C.J. They were inseparable until the Lord called him Home. She was very devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by her two sons, Carson John Bulwinkle Jr. (Lynn) of Hanahan and Thomas D. Bulwinkle (Carol) of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Paulette B. Boals of Daniel Island; sister, Betty Gibson of Hanahan; 8 grandchildren, Lisa B. Stevens, Krista B. Simmons, Cindy B. Lake, Carson J. Bulwinkle III, Todd Bulwinkle, Gretchen Snow, Ashley Pease and Regan Boals; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Katchie D. Crowley.
