Merrill D. Hanna, Sr.

Merrill D. Hanna, Sr., 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 7, 2024. A service will be held graveside, Monday, July 15, 2024 in Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Merrill was born May 17, 1935 in Lake City, South Carolina, son of Laurin Bertile Hanna and Lessie Gaskins Hanna. He served in the Army. In his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to spend time on the water cruising around the harbor in his 1983 Mako and fishing with friends and family. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren on his property on Johns Island doing everything from cutting grass and fixing cars to feeding and hunting the local deer. 

Merrill is survived by his two sons: Merrill D. Hanna Jr. (Jackie) and Laurin W. Hanna (Michelle); his daughter, Teresa Hanna Spell (Ricky); daughter-in-law, Della Gabrielli; grandchildren: Ryan Spell (Gracie), Jacob Spell, Laurin Hanna, Jr. (Brittany), Taylor Hanna, Kimberly Williamson, Tawnya Weatherford (Alan), Brandi Rabon, Scott Rooke, and Dustin Rooke, Tamara Rogers (Bryan), Jessica Hyte (Spencer); great-grandchildren: Ellie, Emmy, Amelia, Harlow, Tiffany, John, Kailyn, Reagan, Austin, Kaleb, Jessie, Courtney, Rylan, Brayden, and Brianna; and sister, Daphin Hanna Delk. He was predeceased by his sister, Delores Filyaw; daughter, Patricia Williamson (Rusty); and son, Chris Gabrielli.
