Merellene "Boo" Howell Ward 64, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Anthony "Tony" Charles Ward died September 17, 2022. Her family will host a Gathering of Friends September 24, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Boo was born and raised in a loving family in rural Missouri. She is the youngest of two daughters born to Merrell Gene Howell and Mary Jane Howell. She spent her youth showing and caring for horses on the family farm. At an early age Boo developed a love of entertaining which continued throughout her life and flourished as she became a gracious hostess on land and sea. If you were lucky enough to be a guest on Knot Less II for the Charleston Christmas Parade of Boats you will agree.
Boo developed a true love of the sea with her husband and enjoyed over 25 years of boating on Charleston Harbor and up and down the South Carolina coast. Boo taught safe boating classes to novice boaters and held over six positions in boating organizations including as Commander of the Charleston Power Squadron, President of ECOMC Auxiliary and President of Charleston Yacht Club Auxiliary.
The family greatly appreciates the tremendous care, kindness, and friendship that Boo received from her doctors and nurses at Charleston Oncology.
Boo is survived by her sister, Brenda Milner (Todd) of De Soto, MO; two brothers-in-law: Christopher Ward (Jojo) of Potosi, MO and Robert Ward (Eileen) of Grovespring, MO; four sisters-in-law: Donna Larimore (Andrew) of Potosi, MO, Lucy Ward of Cadet, MO, Ann Cain (Toby Kitts) of Cumming, GA, and Linda Ward of Cadet, MO. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony C. Ward; two brothers-in-law: Ray Ward of Cadet, MO and Larry Ward of Cadet, MO.
Boo's greatest joys in life were her friends and family. She entertained with gusto and generosity, bringing smiles to all around her. To all of the boaters...raise a glass, smile, tell stories, share a recipe and remember: Teddy Bears are our friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
