Melvin Evans Chambliss

Entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 14, 2010, Melvin Evans Chambliss, of Hanahan, SC.  The relatives and friends of Mr. Melvin E. Chambliss are invited to attend his funeral service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 11 o'clock.  Interment with military honors to follow at Carolina Memorial Park.  Friends may call at Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel on Friday, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Mr. Chambliss was born on May 11, 1923 in Norfolk, VA, one of six children of Herbert Chambliss and Irene Violet Bergstrom Chambliss.  He was a US Army veteran of WWII, where he met his future wife, Betty, in Weston-Super-Mare, England, and married her there June 8, 1945.   He was a member of the VFW Post 5091, Charles E. McKee Post since 1958.  He was with Liberty Life Insurance Company for 30 years and GARCO for twelve years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; three sisters:  Violet Hill, Katherine Schork and Helen Chambliss; and brother, Herbert Chambliss.  He is survived by his son, Stephen Chambliss of Charleston, SC; daughter, Carol Overby of Moore OK; brother, Joe E. Chambliss of Chula Vista, CA; three granddaughters:  Stephanie Ann Chambliss, Robyn Root and Melissa Hernandez; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Emma Hernandez; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

Memorials may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406 or any veterans' organization.
