Melba Sewell Johnston of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of James A. Yarbrough, widow of Ross L. Mathews, wife of Robert G. Johnston entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 10, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will be held at a later date in Mauk Cemetery, Mauk Georgia. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
Melba was born in Thomaston, Georgia, daughter of the late John Sewell and Lizzie McDaniel Sewell. She was a retired Bell South Supervisor. Melba was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Telephone Pioneers of America, several Square Dance Clubs and S.C. Federation of Square and Round Dancers.
She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Johnston of Charleston, SC, daughter, Jeri L. Crabb (Wayne) of Loganville, GA, son, J. Robert Yarbrough (Deirdr'e) of Newman, GA; adopted daughter, Connie Anthony; two grandchildren, Jason T. McGuire, Cody J. Yarbrough and great-grandson, Henry T. McGuire.
