Matthew Craig McCarus, 38, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026.

Matthew was born in Towson, Maryland, on March 10, 1988, to his loving parents, Dr. David and Joyce McCarus. He attended Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was a proud 13-year student. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Hospitality Management from the College of Charleston in 2011.

Matthew resided in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Matthew was a bright and spirited young man who touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people across generations and always offered a listening ear to anyone seeking connection, encouragement, or friendship. Matthew had a lifelong and deep commitment to his Christian faith and could light up a room with his big personality, quick wit, jokes, and enthusiasm. Matthew shared a special bond with his sister Monet, whom he lovingly called “my twin, my heart.”

Matthew approached life with determination and passion as an entrepreneur and business owner. An avid sports enthusiast, he loved nothing more than watching a Ravens game or playing a round of golf with his family and friends.

Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Dr. David and Joyce McCarus; his siblings, David McCarus Jr., Dr. Monet McCarus, Stacey Pineau, and Courtney Pineau (née Jeff Bos); and his beloved nieces and nephews, Samuel Pineau, Sophia Laws, and Matteo Bos, of whom he was a proud uncle. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jason Pineau.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Matthew’s memory to Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
