Matthew Eugene Gibson

Matthew Eugene Gibson, 60, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Jo Traywick Gibson, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October, 2, 2024.

 Matt was born on December 25,1963 at Martin Army Hospital in Fort Benning, Georgia, son of Eugene G. Gibson and Patricia Satterfield Gibson. 

In addition to his wife of almost 40 years, he is survived by two loving daughters, Leslie Ann McLaughlin (Scott) and Samantha Grey Gibson, both of Charleston. Matt took much pride and joy in being "Pop" to his two grandsons, August (Gus) and Henry McLaughlin. He was also loved by his siblings, Elizabeth (Beth) McKown and Andrew (Andy) Gibson, both of Greer, South Carolina. 

Throughout his professional life Matt was active in many aspects of the coffee business. For many years he owned and operated Quick Brew Coffee Services, Inc. in Greer serving customers over the upstate of South Carolina. After moving to the Charleston area he continued to be involved in various aspects of the coffee industry.

 Matt had two things that were of great pleasure to him throughout his life. One was basketball. He was constantly bouncing, dribbling and shooting a ball from the very early part of his life. He progressed through Church Leagues to become a star at Greer High School. From there he went on to obtain a scholarship at Gardner-Webb University where he played for four years. He later coached JV and varsity teams at Greer High School and Gaffney High School. 

His second pleasure was horses and horseback riding. He began riding for pleasure as a youngster and continued for most of his life. Following graduation from Gardner-Webb he enrolled in Martin Community College in Williamston, North Carolina to study Equine Technology. His interest prompted him to become involved in training horses and participating in horse shows. He never lost his love of trail riding with his family members and friends.
