Matilda Shokes Nielson Williams, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Anthony Paul Nielson, II., and Virgil Lee Williams entered into eternal rest Wednesday, January 11, 2017. The family will receive friends Thursday January 12, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at the graveside in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive at 1:00 p.m.
Matilda was born May 13, 1925 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Henry Cortes Shokes and Mattie Beard Shokes. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
She is survived by her three daughters, Susan N. Brady (Jacky) of North Charleston, SC, Janet N. Jilote of Charleston, SC, Nancy N. McCaughey (Rick) of Sharpsburg, GA; four sons, Anthony Paul Nielson, II., (Dee) of Manahawkin, NJ, Philip Edward Nielson (Ruth) of Chattanooga, TN, Henry Thomas Nielson (Robin) of Charleston, SC, and Robert Ashley Nielson of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Harriet Cooper of St. Mary's, PA, Emma Louise Helphinstein of San Antonio, TX; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson, Thomas Anthony Meyer, a sister, Lillian Welch Reneau.
