Mathilda "Lesa" Elica Kenis Greenawalt, 96, of Hanahan, South Carolina, widow of Marion "Joe" A. Greenawalt entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 12, 2022. Her Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 15,2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc.
Lesa was born April 2,1926 in Antwerpen, Belgium, daughter of the late Julianus Kenis and Maria Morren Kenis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church. She was a retired cosmetologist. She has knitted all of her life and received several awards and blue ribbons for her beautiful work. She really enjoyed donating hats and sweaters she made for infants to several local hospitals. She was a volunteer for over twenty years at Trident Hospital. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Milcah Temple. She, along with her husband of 49 years enjoyed many years with the Omar Shrine Temple.
She is survived by one son, James "Jim" Greenawalt and his wife, Rita of Goose Creek SC; five grandchildren, Aaron Greenawalt (Laura), Shane Greenawalt (Niki), Measha Montoya (Josh), Michelle Stephens (Brandon), James "Jimmy" Greenawalt" (Ashley), twenty great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, William "Waldo" Thomas Greenawalt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association.
