Mary Eileen Thornal

Mary Eileen Thornal, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Cary James Thornal went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held graveside Friday, April 21, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends before the graveside on Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd.

Eileen was born June 21, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late Bertram A. Yaeger and the late Mary Rhea Yaeger Furbush. Eileen lived in Baltimore until she married Cary on June 23, 1946. They moved to Charleston and then to Mt. Pleasant in 1950. In her childhood and teenage years, she and her sister, Audrey, sang together at churches, banquets, on the radio, and at canteens and USO's during WWII. Eileen was a member of First Baptist Church after moving to Mt. Pleasant and then a founding member of East Cooper Baptist Church. After their son, Dennis, was born with cerebral palsy, she and Cary worked with other parents to get classes started for special needs individuals. Eileen also enjoyed working with all kinds of crafts and belonged to the East Cooper Crafters Guild.

In addition to her husband, Cary, she is survived by her son, Dennis Allan Thornal.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Maloy.
