Mary Louise Ayers Thomas, of St. George, SC, widow of William Judson Ayers and Harold J. Thomas died Thursday, August 30, 2012. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 in J. Henry Stuhr Mount Pleasant Chapel at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 9, 2012 in Indian Field United Methodist Church, Hwy 15N., St. George, SC.Mrs. Thomas was born May 17, 1916 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Isaac George Dixon and the late Emilie Burns Dixon. Mary graduated from Memminger High School in 1936. After graduation she worked at The Southern Ice Company and Roper Hospital and eventually retired from Roper Hospital. Mary will be remembered foremost as a woman with abiding passion for volunteer work and her affiliation with various Masonic organizations. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Indian Field United Methodist Church She was a member of Alhambra Chapter #60 and St. George Chapter #166 Order of Eastern Star, The Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem #4, Daughters of the Nile Milcah Temple #77 and Order of the Amaranth Lawrence Howell #7. Mary was a member of Fort Sumter Business and Professional Woman Club and as a volunteer she worked with the American Red Cross, Camp Happy Days and Camp Adam Fisher. She is survived by her brother, Isaac George Dixon, III (Barbara) of Mount Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Beth A. Martin of El Cajon, CA and Billie A. Cummings (John) of Asheville, NC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Butler and Judy Taylor; four sisters: Charlotte Hartnette, Betty Marlowe, Frances Ham and Dorothy Garnette; brother George Dixon, Jr. and two grandchildren Henry Wyatt Ward III and Cynthia Marie Fischer.Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association Research Foundation, Attn: Individual Giving Department, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
