Mary Ruth Thames

Reverend Mary Ruth Harwell Thames, 78, wife of the late Hugh Lloyd Thames, Sr., of Awendaw, SC passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011.  The relatives and friends of Rev. Ruth Thames are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Mt. Olivet Pentecostal Holiness Church at 3:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in J HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. She was born on July 24, 1932 in Andrews, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late John Glover Harwell and Alma Elrod Rickenbaker Harwell.  She was a graduate of Holmes College of the Bible and was a retired minister with the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Rev. Thames loved to spend time with her family and friends and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Grier and her husband, Michael, of Awendaw, SC; two sons, Bruce Thames and his wife, Janet, of River Vale, NJ and Rev. Randy Thames and his wife, Judy, of North Charleston, SC; three sisters, Hilda Anderson of Georgetown, SC, Jean Thames of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Millie Stallings and her husband, Gene, of Bladenboro, NC; ten grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, and Erin Thames; Mark, Daniel, Andrew, Matthew and JC Thames; MJ and Bobby Grier; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Wyatt Thames. She was preceded in death by her son, Butch Thames. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Olivet Pentecostal Holiness Church, 8514 Doar Road, Awendaw, SC  29429.
