Mary Lynn Rhodemyre Speissegger, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Herman Baer Speissegger, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, November 21, 2022. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 in Saint James Episcopal Churchyard, Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Mary Lynn was born June 7, 1929 in Ashland, Kentucky, daughter of the late Captain John Lynn Rhodemyre, U.S. Navy and Ella Thomas Rhodemyre. At 12 years old, she was stationed with her family, at Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941; a story she remembered vividly and willfully told. Mary Lynn graduated with a degree in Home Economics from the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was an active member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and volunteered with organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Charleston Association of the Blind, and The Gibbs Museum of Art. One of her biggest passions was cooking. Mary Lynn loved to entertain and host business dinners and holidays. She and Herman enjoyed traveling the world, but their best adventures were cruising the east coast aboard their boat, "Mary L."
Mary Lynn is survived by her two daughters: Melissa S. Mills (Ladson) and Heidi S. Whaley both of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Ladson Mills, IV (Elizabeth), Sterling Mills (Leslie), Mary Legare Whaley and Seabrook Whaley, III; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Anne R. Warner of Chagrin Falls, OH. Mary Lynn is predeceased by her husband, and son in law, John Seabrook Whaley, jr.
The family is thankful for the wonderful care of Mary Lynn from Ashley Gardens and Mt. Pleasant Gardens Memory Care. Memorials may be made to First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
