Mary Ann Maner Sams Smith of Charleston, South Carolina, died peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 82 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Lt. Col. Orlando Flye Smith, USAF (Ret). Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 20, 2015 in St. Johns Parish Church, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in St. John's Churchyard. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 19, 2015 at J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Mary Ann was born August 1, 1932 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Samuel Perry Sams and the late Dorothy Clement Grant Sams. She grew up in Ritter, SC, and was a graduate of Walterboro High School. Mary Ann was the former President of the Officers Wives Club in Warner Robins, GA. A member of St. Johns Parish, Johns Island, she served on the altar guild and as the church secretary for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Evita V. Smith (Michael Judd), two grandchildren, Amy Diane Smith and Orlando Flye Smith, III; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Orlando Flye Smith, Jr.
