Mary Kathryn "Katie" Shealy
Katie was born August 29, 1980 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, daughter of Ralph Layton Shealy and Mary Kay Derrick Shealy. A Wando High School graduate, she actively participated in music, sports, pageants, and performing arts, leaving a legacy of a captivating smile and a compassionate heart, cherished by her friends and loved ones. She was funny, beautiful, outgoing, and just loved everyone, especially her grandmothers!
Music was her passion, her voice akin to an angel's, and she captivated audiences with her singing and dancing talents since her youth. Katie's fondness for "Amazing Grace" echoed her spiritual connection, leading her to join the Young Americans performing company in Los Angeles post-graduation. A self-taught guitarist, she seemed able to do anything well. An excellent athlete, she played high school softball and volleyball and was a varsity cheerleader. A strong swimmer, she was a top competitor on the Hobcaw Yacht Club swim team, lifeguard, and taught swim lessons to many Mt Pleasant children.
Her unwavering Christian faith fueled her desire to serve others, embodying a selfless spirit that touched many lives. A devout member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, Katie radiated joy and warmth, effortlessly befriending everyone she encountered, her infectious laughter and genuine kindness leaving lasting impressions.
Survived by her loving family - Ralph and Mary Shealy, Layton James Shealy, and Amy Elizabeth Shealy Romanowski (Eric) - Katie's memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those she held dear. She now rests in heavenly peace, reunited with her beloved grandmothers, her spirit illuminating the heavens with boundless joy and song.
