Mary McMahan McCoy Rosell, 91 of Wake Forest, NC, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on March 13, 2013 at Elmcroft Northridge in Raleigh. She was born in Greenville County, SC to the late H. Grady McMahan and Annie Tate McMahan.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William H. "Mac" McCoy and Charlie Rosell; sister, Gwen Finney and brother, Joe McMahan. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy, and step-children: Patty Clark, Kitten Tisdale and Johnny Rosell.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in Christ Church (Historic), 2304 Highway 17 North, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11:00 o'clock. Burial will follow in the churchyard.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Anne Hines & husband Mike Reeve of Wake Forest, NC and Laney Hopkins of Raleigh, NC; son, Bill McCoy of Greenville, SC; daughter-n-law, Carol McCoy of Columbia SC; sister, Vera Miller & husband Dan of Burlington, NC; brother, Louis H. McMahan & wife Mabeth of San Carlos, CA; grandchildren, George Hopkins of Raleigh and Matthew McCoy of Columbia; step-son, Michael Rosell & partner Robert Fisher of Vero Beach, FL; step-grandchildren, Dawn Waggoner of Indiana and Scotty Cawley of Charleston, SC; eighteen beloved nieces and nephews, many dear friends, including long time caregivers Steve & Hattie Henderson. She is also survived by Mrs. Betty Fitzgerald her primary care giver for the past year.
Mary graduated from Parker High School in Greenville, SC. and attended business school. During World War II she worked in the Department Of Agriculture in DC. She returned to Greenville SC with the return of Mac McCoy, from three years deployment in the South Pacific. They were married in December 1945. Mac passed in December 1982. She married Charlie Rosell in March of 1996. Charlie passed away in November 2009 and Mary moved to Wake Forest to live with Anne & Mike. She had with many fun weekends with daughter Laney and grandson, George. She entered Elmcroft of Northridge Memory Care in 2011 because of dementia and declining health. The family appreciates those special people at Elmcroft who cared for her. Also, thanks to Hospice of Wake County for their care.
Mary enjoyed volunteering at Christ Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC, where she sang in the choir; was UTO chair, and involved in the Women of the Church; the VFW - Post 10624, making lap blankets for veterans at the VA hospital; and fundraisers for cancer research.
Flowers are welcome, however, Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607, any veterans organization, or the charity of choice.
Mary was waiting for her ticket for a ride on the Train to Glory. She was looking forward to the ride away from pain and suffering, and meeting God at the Pearly Gates. We are sure when she arrived, He said, "Job well done, my servant. Well done."
